A sad moment for me to hear about Jon Gatward’s passing.
He was always Johnny Rubbish to me, an extremely funny man who I took to America to perform at The Comedy Store and catch a rising star, as well as persuading him to open for The Stranglers.
His humour didn’t always go down well, he had darts thrown at him and went on stage with a bike helmet on for protection but he was brave and never backed down, but a gentle man.
A one off, a standup punk poet.
A salute to rubbish.
